Medical & GP Visit Card – What Is Not Covered

Your Medical Card or GP Visit Card entitles you to a range of services from your General Practitioner. These services are determined by the HSE and the Department of Health, and your doctor is reimbursed by the State for providing them.

However, there are a number of additional services that are not covered under this agreement.

These services are provided privately by the practice and may incur a fee.

Services Not Covered Include:

  • Minor surgery
  • Phlebotomy services (routine blood tests)
  • Warfarin monitoring
  • Women’s and men’s health clinics
  • Dressings
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Pre-employment medicals
  • Insurance medicals and reports
  • Medical examinations for legal purposes
  • Sports medicals and reports
  • Fitness to drive assessments
  • Passport or identity reports
  • Crèche reports, school notes, and certificates
  • Letters or certificates supporting Social Welfare applications
  • Utility reports or letters
  • Preventative services (e.g. health checks and screening)
  • Therapeutic counselling
